Kanadamenn og Ísraelar menntuðustu þjóðir heims skv. OECD

Israel Ranks 2nd Among Educated Countries!

higher education

: Israel is a world leader when it comes to academics, according to a report compiled recently by the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD).

Channel 2 News reported on Wednesday that the OECD report shows that Israel is ranked second among OECD member countries in terms of the number of academics.

45 percent of the Israeli population has a post-secondary education, the report found. Israel’s second place puts it ahead of many Western countries, including Japan, the UK, Finland, New Zealand and even the United States.

The report also states that Israel’s rating is particularly impressive in light of the ongoing budget cuts in higher education between the years 2000 and 2009.

The only country that ranked ahead of Israel is Canada, where 50 percent of the population has a post-secondary education.

natan sharanskyJewish mothers traditionally – and are the butt of many jokes and books because of it – encourage their children to excel in school and go on to study academic professions. Jewish Agency head, Natan Sharansky, speaking at the World Emunah Convention’s dinner this week, said that during Communist times, when religious was forbidden, one of the ways Russians could tell a family was Jewish was by its dedication to education.

Israel has been a member of the OECD since 2010. In October of that year, the organization held its bi-annual tourism conference in Jerusalem.

Palestinian TV Praises Terror

Mideast Israel Palestinians: The Palestinian Authority has again praised the perpetrator of the worst terrorist attack in Israeli history, this time during television broadcasts to mark the 47th anniversary of the Fatah faction.

The videos were broadcast over PA TV (Fatah).

In 1978, Dalal Mughrabi led a terrorist cell in hijacking a tourist bus and murdering 37 Israeli civilians, including 13 children. The operation, which later became known as the Coastal Road Massacre, is regularly glorified on official PA TV, with broadcasts of two music videos honoring the terrorists — in particular, Dalal Mughrabi.

The videos, which have been translated by the media watchdog organization Palestinian Media Watch (PMW), are trotted out for PA Arab consumption several times a year.

One of the videos describes the terrorists as “heroes… who shook the land, brought down mountains,” and mentioned how “the coast was stormy with the glory of Dalal Mughrabi.”

Another video, which was broadcast three times, also honors the terrorists, describing them as having “no fear of death or the darkness of prison.”

Both videos, shown during last year’s Fatah anniversary celebration as well, show pictures of Dalal Mughrabi and her team of terrorists sailing in rubber boats, going ashore on the Israeli coast as moved towards their intended targets.

The anniversary of the Fatah faction, headed by “moderate” PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, is celebrated each year with several days of broadcasts of live coverage of rallies, music videos, archive material and special programs.

The January first edition of the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida chose to include the following article glorifying Fatah’s violence and specifically mentioning Mughrabi, by columnist Fathi Al-Biss:

pa tv“The Fatah in my mind is glory; honor; sacrifice; giving; defiance; resistance; dedication of life, blood and property; altruism, humility, love, the meeting on the battlefield, respect for others… The Fatah in my mind is…the heroism of Dalal Mughrabi…The Fatah in my mind is the first bullet; the first blood; and the first echoing scream that split the skies calling for revolution, for liberty…”

Hvejir eru flóttamenn í miðausturlöndum???? Myndband

Indonesian Medical Experts Train in Israel!

Medical experts from Indonesia are graduating from a course at Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center on coping with natural and man-made catastrophes.

Rambam Health Care Center

Rambam Health Care Center

They are among a group of 27 physicians and nurses from 17 countries taking part in a simulated mass casualty event (MCE).

Indonesia is the world’s most populous Muslim country and has no diplomatic relations with Israel.

Rambam management said the simulation is part of the eighth course of its kind, being held for two weeks in total. It is jointly sponsored by Rambam Hospital, the Foreign Ministry and the Health Ministry.

Rambam’s staffers are experts in trauma, emergency and mass casualty situations due to being the main hospital in the North. For years, the hospital has received soldiers injured on the northern border and beyond, as well as civilians caught in home-front wars and terrorist attacks.

“In the course, we learn how to build a system for operating in emergency, trauma and MCE. We did not come to seek medical information, but guidance on how to get organized in case of these situations,” said neurology professor Andi Asadul Islam, from Hassan Udim University in Makassar, Indonesia. “Rambam’s system for trauma is the best there is, and we can learn a lot from it.”

The group will receive their diplomas at the ceremony at Rambam.

magen david adom“We don’t have a good system,” Islam continued. Indonesia’s broad geography presents specific challenges in supplying medical care, he explained. With some 250 million citizens scattered among five large islands and thousands of smaller ones, Indonesia spans an area, from west to east, equal to the length of the US.

Rambam also houses the only trauma system in the North, serving nine general hospitals who cannot take care of severe-trauma patients. The hospital’s Teaching Center for Trauma, Emergency and Mass Casualty Situations leads instruction in this field nationwide and regularly holds international seminars for doctors and nurses from around the world. The center also sends representatives to different countries to teach courses and holds workshops for NATO personnel.

“I had heard about the Rambam course from colleagues who had taken it, and they said it was great,” said Asti Puspita Rini, who manages the 118 Emergency Ambulance Service Foundation in Jakarta, the capital. “It has been an excellent course… We won’t be able to implement each and every thing we learned but will certainly adopt parts of the program.”

The course involves theoretical lectures and enables participants to receive a wide view of the activities of the various emergency medicine units. They also visit IDF simulation centers and Magen David Adom headquarters.

The foreign participants are also taken to national and tourist sites, including the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial.

“As a Muslim, it was especially interesting for me to see the Muslim Quarter in Jerusalem,” said Islam. “Some of my friends and family were afraid and didn’t want me to come here because of what they see on TV,” said Rini, “but it’s totally different than what the media show.”

hummusThey were also introduced to humous.

“Everything is well-organized and perfect,” said Dr. Edi Prasetyo, medical adviser on home care in Jakarta. “We get to see the big picture – how the whole nationwide system works.”

Turning the Darkness of Terror into LIGHT!

: Terrorists in Gaza have fired over 12,000 kassam rockets into southern Israel. As Hamas rockets explode in Israeli towns, blackening the sky and darkening the spirit, an Israeli artist is working hard to brighten up the day with sparks of light. He is turning the darkness of terror into a source of light – in a very literal way!

israeli artistYaron Bob, the artist, lives in the shadow of terror in a southern Israeli village near the border with Gaza. Yaron takes the remains of Kassam rockets and transforms them into beautiful Menorahs. In his words, “I take the Kassam, the instrument of death and I change it, I transfer it into something of beauty.” Yaron’s project is truly a modern day version of “beating swords into plowshares” (Isaiah 2:4).

.
The idea of turning terror in light is especially appropriate as we approach Hanukkah – the Festival of Lights – whose message is all about the victory of light over darkness.

Thousands of years ago, the ancient Greeks sought to destroy the spiritual illumination of the world – our Holy Torah. Ancient Greek culture represented the ultimate darkness – a lack holiness and spirituality. A lack of God. It was during this time that the Jews experienced the miracle of Hanukkah, as just a small jug of olive oil was enough to keep the Menorah in the Holy Temple lit for 8 full days! And a small Jewish army defeated the massive Greek military machine. It was a clear sign that the light our Torah had defeated the darkness of the Greek empire.

.
MENORAHThroughout history, the nations of the world have sought to destroy the Jewish people. Yet not one has succeeded. And each of those evil empires of darkness were themselves obliterated, while the Jewish nation, a beacon of truth, hope and light, survives and flourishes. The message of Hanukkah is the eternal story of the Jewish people – transforming death into life, destruction into growth, darkness into light. These incredible Menorahs, created from Hamas missiles meant to kill, are eternal reminders of the strength, endurance and shining light of the people of Israel.

.
Today, nearly one million residents of Israel live under daily threat of rocket attacks from Gaza. An entire generation of children has been traumatized by the terror of ongoing rocket attacks. With only 15 seconds to find cover, lives are in jeopardy. By purchasing a menorah, candlesticks or any of these unique symbols of light, you become a partner in protecting the citizens of Israel from future attacks. A portion of every purchase will be donated to build bomb shelters and save lives
